To end our blog, I thought you might enjoy hearing our about our favorite People to People moments.
Leaders:
Ms. Lee Anne - One of my favorite moments was when everyone finally got over their homesickness... somewhere around Day 3! I also enjoyed the whale watching expedition. I loved making new friends and watching the students bond as a delegation. Throughout the journey, our students demonstrated their ambassadorial skills. Peace through understanding - that's our motto!
Ms. Jennifer - I had too many favorite memories to pick just one, so here goes... I was deeply touched when Jill (from the Blackfoot family) gave Lauren N. a dream catcher necklace after learning she had lost her home in the tornadoes and her teepee in the wind. I will not forget the great new friends I've made (Anthea and Nicole) and the ones I got to know better (Lee Anne, Kathy, and Tiffany). I loved jumping on the shores of Bow Lake to get fun photos with the MOST FANTASTIC TEACHER LEADER TEAM EVER. Bungee jumping was an awesome personal accomplishment for me, but it paled in comparison to watching Sanders overcome his fears on the zip course (with dozens of delegates chanting his name in support). That will forever be in my heart. This is by no means my entire list...
Ms. Kathy - My favorite People to People moments occured daily as I shared precious memories with the wonderful students, visited historical sites, made new friends, and saw true friendship.
Ms. Tiffany - My favorite memories have to do with the students. I have enjoyed getting to know each student individually and watching them come out of their shells. The way they were able to overcome homesickness, the smiles on the student's faces when they were doing new things, students going above and beyond to be kind to other students... I wil miss them all and will carry these memories with me forever!!!!
Alabama Delegates:
Kerri B. - My favorite thing was visiting the Wolf Centre. The reason for this is that I LOVE wolves. Plus I love howling with them since I have with my dog all the time (my baby).
Lauren N. - One of my favorite memories would be whale watching because you got to see nature, you got to take beautiful pictures, and I went to the beach without being burnt!
Cody H. - My favorite part about this trip was making 43 new friends and whale watching. We saw about 20 whales!
Connor B. - My favorite thing about the whole trip was Monkido (called Tree Go on former programs), and watching the leaders bungee jump.
Tyler M. (from Alabama) - My favorite thing was Parliament. We saw where they work, and then we got to eat like them (Empress Hotel Dining). It was really cool.
Samuel G. - My favorite memory from this P2P trip was the bus rides. Some were long and some were short, but they were all a lot of fun. All the dance parties and jokes and laughter were many of the things that made this trip great.
Grace F. - One of my favorite memories is laughing so hard I almost wet my pants. I also remember Amanda's tipi blowing over. My most favorite memory was riding the gondola down the mountain with Ms. Anthea, Kyle, and Cody. I will never forget this trip. EVER.
Bethanie R. - My favorite things were the Empress Hotel tea, and Monkido. I liked the Empress Hotel because it made me feel "prim and proper." The tea they served was awesome. I loved it and I hope to do it again later in my life. The reason why I liked Monkido was because it was fun, but challenging at the same time. But my favoritest thing of all was making new friends.
Spencer D. - My favorite memory was the glacier. It was my favorite because we could slide along the ice. Another reason is because we got to fill our water bottles up with the purest water. We also got to ride on a $700,000 bus.
Austin E. - My favorite thing I did on the trip was the zipline.
Tyler G. - My most memorable thing I did was with the First Nations. I had fun times there where the First Nation people lived. I will always remember the tipi camp.
Peyton B. - One of my favorite things we did was the ZIPLINE! I thought I would be scared but I wasn't.
Amanda Jane P. - My favorite part of going to Canada was everything I've gotten to see and do, and I really appreciated how my leaders helped me along the way. I also enjoyed being able to make new friends. So thank you for helping me. And thank you for the best opportunity of a LIFETIME! PEOPLE 2 PEOPLE! :)
Sarah P. - My favorite memory was meeting new friends from Texas, and the tree climbing activities. Love, Sarah
Peyton J. - The whale watching and the zipline were my favorites. I will never forget making new friends and everything we did. I'm absolutely sure I WILL go next year if I can.
Melissa E. - My favorite wonder of my journey would have to be overoming my fears, trying new foods and things, and making the best friends I will never-ever forget. I enjoyed every activity we did, and wish the trip would never end.
Logan L. - My favorite place on this trip was Monkido (formerly Tree-Go). I liked the ziplining and going through different obstacles. Ziplining was the best part of it because it would start slow and then go faster. The funniest part of it was seeing the leaders on the bungee jump.
Graham S. - My favorite memory is probably whale watching. That was a lot of fun. I also really enjoyed just being with friends. Thank you, P2P!
Somil J. - My favorite thing which we did was Monkido which is an obstacle course above the ground. It was fun soaring on the zipline and walking on a moving path. I also like making new friends. You'll never forget the friends you make in People to People.
Sanders W. - My favorite part was Monkido, and overcomeing my fears. I learned that I can do anything if I believe in myself. I stumbled, but I just got up and kept going.
Mary Lauren T. - I definitely liked everything and enjoyed the lifetime experience. If I had to pick a favorite thing though I would pick meeting new people and making new friends. I will totally miss everyone! Keep in touch!
Christopher C. - My most favorite thing on the trip was Monkido. It was so muc fun and I loved it. I also love making new friends. It was the best trip ever!
Kortlin C. - I loved everything. I would love to come back next year. The most favorite part that I had was making new friends. I didn't cry (leaving), but I wanted to. I'm so glad I am in this program.
Kyle P. - My favorite thing that I did in Student Ambassadors was when we did the whale watching.
Jaionna T. - My best memory was making friends with all 43 Ambassadors and the leaders also.
Evan D. - My favorite memories... hot springs, ziplining, shopping, learning about new things, the castle, the tipi camp. I had a great time here making new friends, also with our dance parties, and just getting to go to Canada. I seriously had "the time of my life."
Abby S. - My favorite People to People moment was the excitement of going whale watching and getting to adopt a killer whale!
Hannah L. - My favorite memory was traveling all over Canada. It was amazing to see all the sight that most people can only dream about. I have really enjoyed going to Canada and I hope I get back there again.
Lauren O. - My favoirte memory was getting over Tree-Go (Monkido). I am not as scared of heights now. I liked whale watching, too.
Michaela H. - My favorite memory on this trip is everything, but if it had to be one it is the glacier. You could tell a difference in the water. It gave an interesting taste.
No name - (if this is you, let me know!) - Out of all the memories I had it is hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to pick one it would be the Royal Tyrell Museum. I have always found stuff like that interesting.
Nicholas - My favorite memory was the gondola.
Katelyn W. - My favorite part of this trip was going whale watching. It was so neat to see them in the wild instead of a fish tank at Sea World. And my other favorite is ziplining. It was really simple and easy.
Katelyn H. - My favorite thing of this trip would have to be ziplining. Everything on the trip was super fun, but ziplining was just a bit more enjoyable than the rest. I am soooo glad I got to go on this program. I met soooo many new friends and the trip was SUPER fun.
Abby M. - My favorite thing that I did on my journey was making a lot of great friends. :) I will absolutely never forget all the great friends I have made on my journey to Canada. Especially the laughs we shared. I will definitely miss all of the delegation.
Kyler - My favorite memory was when we went ziplining. IT WAS SO FUN! At first I was scared, but now I love it.
Riley M. - My favorite things of Canada were doing the zipling and ropes courses at Monkido, riding the gondolas, and going to the glacier.

A Journey Completed - July 17
Today we got up bright and early, without our Texas friends, who left even earlier. We grabbed Tim Horton's muffins and egg sandwiches for breakfast, and headed to the airport at 8:30am thinking we had plenty of time to spare. We spent a few minutes eating our breakfast, and said our good-byes to Ms. Anthea. (We visited Canada, Eh?) Our Ambassadors of the Day are Bethanie R. and Sanders W.
It took us quite a while to check in with American Airlines. While the teachers checked everyone in, the airport staff asked our delegates to appear in an anniversary commercial for the airline. Our students sang YVRAirport (to the tune of YMCA) and told a little about their stay in Canada.
When were finally all checked in, US Customs was overflowing. Thus our final adventure began... each teacher group navigated independently through the impossibly long lines. By the time the last groups made it through it was noon. Our departure time was 12:15. My group jogged through the airport (to the very last gate, of course), and Ms. Tiffany's group had to sprint! Her group boarded only moments before take off. Groups of 10 delegates and one really nervous leader running through an airport is surely an interesting sight. I only wish I'd had time to snap a few pictures. But we all made it!!!! :)
On our first flight we watched an on-board movie (Rio), and even participated in a service project. The flight attendants asked if any of us collected pop tops. I explained that my school collects them for Ronald McDonald House and Children's Hospital. The attendants then passed out the flats of cans. Several delegates, Ms. Lee Anne, and I popped the tops off of the cans. It fit in nicely with our on-going service project of SUSTAINIBILITY and caring for our environment!
Other delegates chose to spend their flight time involved in other activities...
Our next flight was much less eventful. We arrived in Dallas on time, and had two hours to eat. Many of the students found McDonalds. We boarded our flight after dinner and headed for home. Students read, slept, played cards, and looked forward to seeing their families.
Thank you, parents, for giving us the opportunity to watch your children grow and learn. We've had "the time of our lives". :)

High Tea and Good Friends - July 16
Today we began our day with a little bit of shopping in downtown Victoria. After shopping, Ms. Anthea took us for ice cream! Everyone had their choice of dark chocolate, swiss chocolate, birthday cake, chocolate, or vanilla. Our Ambassadors of the Day are Abby S. and Connor B.
After ice cream, we walked to Parliament and took our guided tour. Sir James Douglas even made a guest appearance!
Next we headed to the nearby Empress Hotel for high tea. Queen Elizabeth the II has also taken tea here. Though I hoped we would run into William and Kate, we did not. High tea was a fun and new experience for all of us, and I was very impressed by how our delegates represented People to People. Three different staff members at the Empress Hotel commented on how well behaved our group was. The delegates were absolutely fabulous.
After tea, we took the ferry back to Vancouver. We drove to Stanley Park. We participated in a National Parks fair that was occuring at the park, and we toured the totem polls. Some of the Twilight movies were filmed in Vancouver, and the foliage and the rain sure did remind some of us of those movies!
Next we saw the steam clock in Gastown, and we had a photo op with the Olympic Torch in Vancouver.
After the torch, we dined in a huge Chinese restaurant where they served unbelievable amounts of food!
Finally, we checked into our accomodations at the University of British Columbia Vancouver. We had a little good-bye party complete with Tim Horton Timbits. We said good-bye to our friends from Texas (who are leaving on an earlier flight than the Alabama group). Lots of good-bye tears were shed, and many memories shared. I heard more than one student say they'd had the time of their lives. :)

I am sad to see these delegates go, but proud to have seen how much they did grow. Thanks for letting all of us leaders have the opportunity to watch these children grow, change, and learn.
